11/30/2022 1 Comment Thanksgiving breakThis week I didn't do much because it was Thanksgiving break. I worked on chipping on Wednesday because I kept shanking it to the right. I didn't do anything on Thursday because it was Thanksgiving, so I decided to spend some time with my family. I woke up late on Friday, so I went to the driving range later that day to work on my drives to increase my yardage. I didn't have a golf lesson on Saturday because my golf coach was off for Thanksgiving. I took a day off on Sunday and did some school work from the week before because I was sick. I have started to see improvement in my tempo. I have stopped hitting behind the ball, which has improved my score. My putting hasn't been that good because I forgot that it is something that I need to practice, and I have been so focused on fixing my swing. I am not very hopeful that I will reach my goal of consistently shooting in the 40s because I feel like I haven't taken it as seriously as I should. I have also put golf on the back burner because I have been so busy with schoolwork and swim.
11/22/2022 1 Comment i have been sickThis week I didn't get to practice very much because I have been sick. But on Saturday, I did play in a golf tournament fundraiser for the girl's basketball team. I played with three of my teammates and my golf coach. We played captain's choice which is when you play the best ball. For some reason, I haven't been able to drive the ball well, which makes sense because I haven't been working on my driving that much. I need to start working on my putting more because it could use some work. My group ended up shooting four under, which is pretty good. We were the only girls in the tournament, so we won a prize. I got three golf ball sleeves and a hat in my bag.
11/17/2022 1 Comment good practice weekThis week was a good practice week. I got a practice net to hit golf balls into, so after school, I would hit golf balls and then go swim practice every day. Since it has been cool outside, I have been practicing putting inside on my carpet because it simulates a putting green. I also put a cup out to aim for accuracy (videos of my practice sessions are included on the home page in the tik tok section). I have also been getting up at 5:30 to go to some athlete workout classes. After swim, I have been stretching to try and keep my shoulders from getting too tight. It is important to stay flexible for golf. I didn't get to play any this weekend because of the rain, which made the ground wet and muddy.
11/13/2022 0 Comments getting back at it.This week I played 36 holes because of the nice weather. On Monday, I worked on my short game and bunker shots and played a few holes (included in the home page video section). During the rest of the week, I did light workouts like swim practice, which helps with upper body strength, and some putting practice. I didn't get to play until the weekend because of homework and swimming. I have been practicing timing because that was a big issue during my last golf match. While playing the 36 holes, I realized I needed to work on my chipping and putting more because I was inconsistent and wasn't making as many putts as I used to. I plan to fix my putting by practicing for 20 minutes daily with a putting mirror to increase my consistency. One thing that I have always had trouble with is putting, which many people also struggle with. I have always been told that chipping is the most important thing to be good at in golf because that is how you cut down on strokes. I struggle with not practicing my chipping because it isn't my favorite thing to do. I played nine holes with some of my guy friends who are much better than me. Even though playing with people who are better than you can be intimidating, it pushes you to be better. They gave me some good tips on improving my golf game, which helped considerably. I also had a golf lesson on Saturday with my golf coach, who has been helping me with my swing.
11/9/2022 2 Comments I took a week offI had to take a week off because I just needed to cool off after my last match because I was really upset. I have noticed something that isn’t really talked about in golf is the mental side of it. I have always been told that the only thing that is consistent in golf is being inconsistent. Sometimes you really have no control over what is going to happen and when you get upset everything gets worse. I have always been told to forget about the bad shots but it isn’t always that easy even though I wish I could forget about them.
Last golf match of the year.
This golf match went wrong in every way possible. We left school early so we could complete the 18 holes before the sun went down. While I was warming up I was doing fine. My shots were going right but they would still have been in play. The course we played at normally has very slow greens but because of the time of year the greens were actually really fast so that threw me off a lot. My contacts were not in correctly so they were bothering me the whole match. I didn't have enough time to fix my swing so I kept chunking the ball. After the first 9 holes I was so over it. My mental state was not the best and I was extremely frustrated in myself and started to cry. I just wasn't doing good on the first 9 holes and shot a 57. I had a few good shots on the 2nd 9 and ended up shooting a 52. After the 18 holes I ended up with a 109 which I was really frustrated with because I knew I could have done so much better. This week we played at our home course. Normally you have an advantage when playing a home course but over the weekend they had changed the flag placements on the green to very challenging spots. I was struggling with my putting more than usual because of these flag placements. Another thing I was struggling with was my driving. Normally my drives go about 250 yards but this day I was chunking the ball so they went about 210 yards. I bogeyed 3 of the holes, made over bogey on 2 of them, and I also had one birdie. I ended up shooting a 52 which wasn’t bad and still one of my better scores but was still frustrated because I know I could have done better. I have found that golf is a very mental sport and you tend to be very inconsistent which can be really frustrating. We had our normal practices this week and I ended up winning a putting contest and got 20 dollars. I am proud of how far my putting has improved this season. In addition to the normal golf practice schedule I had a golf lesson on Saturday that went really well. I was hitting my irons really solid and felt confident about my upcoming tournament on monday. On Sunday I went to play 18 holes with my step dad and I was playing really badly. I kept chunking the ball and couldn't hit a drive to save my life. But little did I know that I would play the worst I have ever played so far in my high school career. I haven’t been weight training recently because It’s not good to lift weights before a golf match and we have had a golf match every week. I also don’t want to be sore when I play in matches. I hope I do well in my tournament next week because it will be my last chance to make states.
